Catapult People

Catapult People delivers The International Employment Service to Skilled Migrants, International Graduates and Australian Employers, facilitating work placements, employment and improved productivity.

Our customised services aim to use our experience in:

1. Promoting the skills and attributes of those who have migrated to Australia, or want to. (To find out more, click on "For Jobseekers" above).

2. Developing strategies, and then initiating them, for Australian businesses to improve the quality of candidates it attracts and employs, with particular emphasis on access to skilled overseas workers, using a range of Permanent and Temporary Visa classes. (To find out more, click on "For Employers" above.

Where possible, we arrange access to various means of government funding and support.

for employers

We can be the 'fast track' to skilled migration solutions for your business. Put simply, we see employers falling into a few general groupings:

A: Those who know they need people from overseas, have made arrangements through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and might have successfully recruited from overseas.

B: Those who acknowledge they need to develop a skilled migration solution, but have not been able to successfully set a strategy, possibly due to other distractions and the amount of 'red tape' involved.

C: Those who do not believe that their business needs to access skilled overseas workers.

Which group do you fit into?

If you are an A, we can help you source the right candidates. If a B, we will help you lock in a strategy and then source the candidates. In some cases, where we are able to introduce our skilled migrant clients to you, it may be the case that you will not need to pay us a fee for referrals of suitable candidates.

We know skilled migration. We know which occupations are subject to which regulations and we travel overseas regularly to deal with our selected agents and recruit the right people, often with our clients.

We introduce you to specialist Registered Migration Agents when required to help your business with processing and regulations.

Our preferred suppliers, onshore and offshore, are sourced through a vigilant assessment process and contracted to service agreements.

If you want to progress your initiatives, then we are the people to talk to.

Send us your details and we will get back to you to arrange an appointment.

for job seekers

Catapult People delivers Employment Agent services to any individual who wants help to secure a position in Australia, provided we think we can get a result.

Current "offshore" contracts include finding career positions for a range of clients from around the world, including Agronomists, Engineers, Project Managers and various trades people.

We also deliver career advice, marketing and placement services to "onshore" migrants who are already in Australia and are finding it hard to make connections with employers and get into work.

We are licenced to provide Employment Agent services by the South Australian State Government, so we must adhere to the most stringent ethics guidelines and rules. When others are ready to take your money, we suggest you ask them for a copy of their current licence and whether they are permitted to represent candidates.

We offer a range of different packages to suit a broad range of careers and origin country options.

The secret to our success is ACTION. we don't just talk about the labour market and what a Jobseeker should do; we actually pick up the phone and make calls to our network to find opportunities for you and because we have hundreds of contacts in the employer market, our calls are often warm calls, not cold calls. We aim to refer candidates to vacancies before the positions are advertised by selling the unique skills and experiences of our Jobseeking clients.

To find out more, please send us your contact details with a resume and a short description of your circumstances, goals, Visa status etc. and we will come back to you quickly with a copy of our Licence and some ideas and a proposal.

Overseas agencies

Catapult People has developed exclusive "offshore" agency arrangements in many countries including mainland China, Hong Kong, South Africa, the Philippines, Malaysia, the UK, Ireland, South Korea, India, Singapore and New Zealand. We are always seeking to expand our source capability and welcome enquiries from overseas agents who are keen to develop mutually beneficial arrangements.

We imagine many Employment and/or Migration Agents might be interested in the service we deliver given the changes to priority processing of Visas announced by DIAC on September 23 2009, meaning that employer sponsored Visas are the top priority. Maybe, just maybe, we can help secure the sponsor your client needs.

We are always prepared to travel so that we can meet prospective partners and interview candidates, our recent trip to India (Oct/Nov 2009) and planned trip to Ireland in March 2010 as examples.

If you are interested in us helping you to get connected to the Australian market on behalf of your clients/candidates, please contact us.

About Us

Catapult People was founded by Patrick Comerford in 2004 when he saw opportunities to do a better job in initiating training programmes and job placements for long term unemployed Australians. Catapult People still performs these services occasionally, but since 2006, has also evolved to become a specialist in the delivery of employment services to skilled migrants and the initiation of skilled migration strategies for Australian employers.

Our personnel have travelled overseas nine times in the last three years to develop in-country agent arrangements and to successfully source candidates for employers in Australia.

Catapult People has a charter to help people change their lives, and this applies to skilled overseas workers who want to make a better life in Australia, as well as Australian employers who are seeking better supply of suitable skilled workers and improved productivity levels within their businesses (makes their lives easier).

We have team of highly dedicated staff, associates and contractors, with values for the respect of the individual and client rights.

We spend lots of time staying in front of changes to rules and regulations so we can be best placed to help Skilled Migrants and Employers choose the best strategies for success.

Those who might be interested in a career with Catapult People can come from any background or nationality, but they must have the required level of dedication and respect for the individual.

Patrick is the current CEO of Catapult People, but continues to work on many cases personally and keeps a hand-on involvement on a day to day basis.

news

The following examples are a selection of recent successful services to candidates from overseas.

Candidates

Bhaumik Bhatt: This earnest and dedicated man engaged in our onshore Employment Agent service in 2009, following a period of frustration and rejection. One of our Associates marketed him to a range of Employers with vigour and enthusiasm and succeeded in placing Bhaumik with an employer who had previously rejected his several applications. We are happy to send you his full testimonial. You will appreciate it.

Hao: An International Accounting graduate from China, Hao had undertaken a range of unpaid work placements to try and accumulate Australian experience, but had enjoyed no success in securing paid work. We canvassed dozens of Accounting firms, large and small, during what we call our "Momentum" session until we came across one prepared to interview her. She started work the following week and is still going strong, with her employer reporting a great attitude and attention to detail.

Lavesh: A recent arrival from India when we met him early in 2009, Lavesh was desperate to secure "Survival" work to be able to manage his financial situation, as well securing fulltime work to meet the provision of his 475 Visa. Our marketing efforts saw him placed with DM Plastics and he is still going really well.

"Harry": We first met Harry (Honghai Ju), a Welder, in Qingdao, China, in mid 2007. Harry had thoughts about a plan to migrate to Australia for several years and the Australian Government requirement for Functional English from July 1 2007 made him realise that he needed to make a move (not that he didn't have reasonable use of English but he was worried he would not pass the written element). Harry's welding test, conducted by Catapult People and overseen by a senior TAFE manager and Boilermaker by trade, was excellent, and we elected to offer him a sponsorship under the sublass 457 Visa for our client, Stevens Resources. Harry, together with nine of his countrymen from various parts of China, arrived in Adelaide, South Australia, in October 2007 and commenced working with Host Employer, Custom Coaches. He has now been joined by his wife and continues to make a significant contribution to the output of his Host Employer. By early 2010, Harry will qualify to apply for his Permanent Resident Visa and we feel sure that he will continue to make a significant contribution to the future of Australia. Well done Harry.

"Eric" Fan: Eric, originally from China, was a subclass 495 Visa holder when we met him in Adelaide. His Independent, but provisional, Visa status meant that he needed to find 12 months fulltime work to be able to qualify for his application for Permanent Residency. We managed to find this work for him with several long term clients, in positions where he could apply his Electrical expertise and qualifications. Eric's employer loves his work and all going well, he will achieve his life goals.

"Kamaljit": This lovely young man from India found his way to Adelaide via a Student Visa, but was desperate to secure work in his field of Civil Engineering. We canvassed our valued client, PMP Bitumen (now Fulton Hogan), for interest and they were prepared to take him on for the permissible 20 hours per week (as per the conditions of the Student Visa). Within two weeks, PMP asked us to arrange for Kamaljit to be sponsored on a subclass 457 Temporay Long Stay Business Visa, providing for fulltime work rights. His Visa is now approved and he is a step further on the pathway to Permanent Residency.
